The Centre for Regional Integration in Africa (CRIA), is a dedicated African Centre for regional integration that not only seeks to meet the challenges of region –building and regional integration in Africa, but also offers the much-needed leadership at all levels in this key aspect of African development.
In the first instance, CRIA is a continental institution that serves as a basis for research, training and consultancy on African economic integration and endeavours to respond to perceived problems that are clogging the wheels of African integration.
Second, the Centre provides core competent skills for handling policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of issues on region – building and regional integration and award Masters degrees, diplomas and certificates.
Third, it serves as a documentation and resource centre for policy makers, governments, productive sector groups in the private sector, NGOs, as well as donor institutions and agencies which have an interest in regional integration. Finally, CRIA offers other advisory services to governments and the regional integration schemes.
CRIA’s vision is to be a premier international, independent think-tank for promotion of regionalism as a key element of African development strategy. It seeks to direct the surge of interest on the subject of economic cooperation and integration into constructive and productive channels and provide programmes and guidelines for action.
The primary mission of CRIA is to provide cutting-edge, evidence-based research and capacity building to facilitate adoption of well-informed policy choices for meeting challenges of regionalism in Africa. The Centre achieves this by enhancing the knowledge and skills of policy-makers, decision-makers, implementers, professional, academics, private sector and civil society organisations, and all other non-state actors engaged in regional cooperation and integration processes in Africa.
Serve as focal point for research and analysis on issues, problems and policies relating to sub-regional and regional integration process in Africa with a view to generating necessary data for effective policy formulation and implementation;
Offer training to strengthen the capacities of broad range of key actors drawn from the continental and regional economic communities (RECs), business organisations, national public sectors and non-state stakeholders (e.g. media, NGOs, women, youth, etc) in the identification of effective formulation, implementation, review and update of integration policies and programmes;
Convene forums for discourse, dialogue and debate on critical challenges to the process of sub-regional and regional cooperation in Africa;
Provide consultancy and advisory services to national, sub-regional, regional and international organisations and give technical assistance for promotion of rapid regional economic integration in Africa;
Act as a documentation and resource centre for the collection, storage and dissemination information on regional integration in Africa;
